I’ve lost two pounds this week on the iDiet! Six pounds total! I’m learning a lot about a diet high in fiber. It keeps you full; so you’re not hungry and eating out of hunger rather than nutritional needs. I can honestly say I’ve never lost weight as easily as this. This isn’t to say that I’ve followed the diet to the letter. I have to gradually add the fiber because my digestive system has been upset by too much fiber too soon. I’m eating the Fiber One cereal every other day but having a high fiber bar every day for a snack.
I have the energy to maintain my exercise routine. With other weight loss plans, I became hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) from an unbalanced diet. I have to balance my diet/exercise plan carefully to nourish myself properly. I don’t have to worry about this with iDiet. My energy is good and I have plenty to eat. In fact, I’m having a hard time fitting in the 3 meals and 2 snacks each day! How many weight loss plans are there out there where there’s more food than you can eat in a day?
I’ve been to two meetings now. I’m enjoying the support from the other women in the group. This plan is for men also; we just don’t have any in our group. Two of the gals call it the “We Diet.” They’re friends who are doing this together to support each other. Collectively, we lost almost 31 lbs the first week which is wonderful. Typically, on any weight loss plan the weight loss slows down after the first week. The goal is a steady weight loss. People lose at different rates based on age, metabolism, sex (men lose weight faster than women), etc.
I’m dividing my weight loss into five pound increments. I’m much more patient if I break it up into bite size pieces. After every five pounds, I set my next short term goal. I’ve decided to reward myself with a new outfit for work after I’ve lost ten pounds. I love Zobha yoga wear and can’t wait to order it online. With the exercise I do; a combination of cardio, Pilates and Power Plate, I’ve already gone down a size! I’m able to walk a little faster on the treadmill, weighing less.
I record my weight every morning online and look at the graph to see how it’s trending. Diane, our group leader will email us during the week to encourage us and we’re able to keep in touch with her and the other group members with tips on food, recipes, etc. I’m doing very little cooking on this plan. You can cook or not depending on your preferences. I do some cooking on Sundays, but I’m keeping it pretty simple most of the time. With my work schedule, I have no time to cook meals during the day. The sample menus are great with lots of options.
I’m spending a little more time looking at labels at the grocery store. I’ve always read labels being on a low gylcemic diet. I want to know what’s in my food. I stay away from sugar; my body doesn’t like it. That doesn’t mean I don’t eat anything sweet ever! I do as a treat (which isn’t every week). When I was growing up a treat wasn’t every day! It was for a special occasion. We’ve kind of forgotten that with our access to so much food; eating out often, etc. We don’t eat out often. Once a week usually. I make my husband’s lunch every day. It’s easier to control what we eat and it’s more economical as well.
This isn’t the only time of year to be focusing on weight loss for health. It’s EVERY day of the year. There is no such thing as eating perfectly. If you are on a diet and you eat something that isn’t on your diet; you have another opportunity with your next meal to get back on the plan! So many of us fall off the wagon so to speak and decide the hell with it. Just eat everything! Too weak to follow the diet; might as well give up. No. Pick yourself up, brush yourself off and keep going. One meal not on the plan doesn’t ruin things. iDiet has a recovery plan for this so you don’t have to beat yourself up.
Well, I’m off to watch the next episode of Downton Abbey. I’m not hungry for my last snack of the day so I won’t bother with it. I’m looking forward to the next week of weight loss. Maintaining a positive attitude is half the battle. I’ll report in next week. For those of you who are on a diet, please feel free to email me about your experience. I’m always interested in learning from other people about what works and what doesn’t. Good luck!
About our guest blogger Debra Goldman:
Debra has been an athlete, trainer and Pilates instructor for over 30 years, and she has referred clients to the iDiet program for several years. She noticed that every one of them lost weight, maintained their weight loss, and raved about how easy and enjoyable the community groups were. Like most people, Debra has faced and overcome a variety of physical injuries and health issues — some that make weight maintenance more difficult. So she decided to join an iDiet group, and journal the process. Join us on Debra’s weight loss journey.
